Attention All New Jersey Bloggers: Help Blog Out Hunger on December 15

On Monday, December 15, bloggers across New Jersey are banding together to support the Community Food Bank of New Jersey. Deb Smith of Jersey Bites coordinated this massive effort and she needs your help. If you're a blogger in New Jersey and would like to put up a post about the Food Bank on December 15, please contact Deb at Jerseybites AT gmail DOT com and she will send you everything you need (fact sheets, images, even video to embed). We have 63 bloggers participating so far, but the goal is to reach 100 or more.

With the number of families across the country counting on churches and food banks to feed their families increasing at astronomical rates this year, the Food Bank needs our help now more than ever.

Here are some hard facts about what's going on right in our own backyard:

• In New Jersey alone, an estimated 250,000 new clients will be seeking sustenance this year from the state’s food banks. – “No Food on the table,” By Judy Peet, The Star-Ledger, Oct. 23, 2008

Statistics on the Plight of the CFBNJ
• At the Community FoodBank of New Jersey (CFBNJ), requests for food have gone up 30 percent, but donations are down by 25 percent. - CFBNJ

• Warehouse shelves that are typically stocked with food are bare and supplies have gotten so low that, for the first time in its 25 year history, the food bank is developing a rationing mechanism. - CFBNJ

Before you go and write to Deb, please take a moment to read this compelling post by Lynette from the New Jersey Moms Blog. Let's do what we can to help.
